Boa’s “Eat You Up” single has been out for a month or so but hasn’t received any air time on the US radios. I’ve heard maybe 2 accounts of this happening but that’s just not enough. So I did what any devoted fangirl would do and tried to promote her.

One of the biggest pop radio stations in the NYC area is z100. Their website allows you to chat with other listeners and the DJ as well as listen to the current music playing. So I thought maybe If I bring up her name casually in this chat, some of these people may have already heard about BoA. Wait, maybe I can even request the song to be played! Well, not really.

DBSK does it again with this sexalicious new MV for their song “Wrong Number.” This is the thrill of fangirling right here. The picture they used may have been wrong but certainly not the video. The picture makes it look like all the boys are secretly strippers and Max just owns them. In this new MV, we get to see a sexy side to all of the boys, especially band leader U-Know (Yunho). There were scenes where my jaw just dropped from the sexy overload. I thought he was just too sexy for the screen when he gives that glance to Xiah while on the phone. NO. It got hotter than that. That scene where Yunho was in the bath tub. GOODNESS. And when he STEP OUT of the bath tub. I swear, these boys poison my teenage mind every time. Then there’s also a few new backing vocals added with Xiah singing. He’s got an amazing voice. But I’m pretty sure there’s just going to be lots of fangirling over Hero (with his rapping part and all). Just my fangirling instincts kicking in I suppose. I think everyone will just have to see the MV for themselves.

Hey everyone! Happy Pocky day! I must say, this has got to be one of the best days ever considering all we have to do is EAT POCKY AND CELEBRATE IT’S AWESOMENESS. But that aside, one of my favorite parts of Pocky day is the commercials! My brother and I used to just look up Pocky commercials in our spare time because they were so funny and ridiculous. Here are a few of my favorites!

Big Bang- Remember

Big Bang’s second album titled “Remember” is here! To jump start on things, Big Bang has released their video for the song “Red Sunset” a cover of a song by Lee Moon Sae. As a start, I guess I’ll have to review that first since I saw it first before the album.

Well, I must say, it’s a cute video. I thought Daesung was cute running around like a doofus. Of course, TOP is hot as always. It’s an interesting cover of the song. It’s definitely in the pop category. It’s very obvious that Big Bang’s style likes to constantly change. It was odd listening to “Number 1″ earlier today and then to jump to this. I was also distracted by their sign that read “Let’s go west!” Apparently, it’s an attempt at awareness for the major oil spill that happened in S. Korea a while ago. Well, I like the enthusiasm but it’s kinda late for that. It’s a very upbeat song and I must admit it’s catchy. But of course, Big Bang finally got better when they covered someone else’s song.

Another video for you guys. This week has been BoA’s US debut starting point and as fangirls we just have to point it out our way. The song “Eat you up” has really grown on me. However the music videos, well I only really like the dancing in the Asian version. This video blog expresses our feelings about the US MV. Sorry about our dry humor but we do this spontaneously. I’m not a director or an actor and lord knows I should never be one.  Hope you enjoy!

I must say… I’m disappointed. BIG BANG. I was right to question their first single from the album, “Number 1.” Then, we’re given this ALBUM THING. It was just too… I can’t even describe it or find out where to start. Well, I think we should just start with their overall appearance. TOP. What are you wearing? This face mask THING. It’s got spikes coming out of his FACE. He can do way better. He’s just too good looking to mess up like that. At least he’s got another reasonable picture. DAESUNG looks like they didn’t have a proper hat for him and put a beach towel on him. I think he’s covering up so he doesn’t get a tan or something. TAEYANG. I think everyone should just look at his shirt. There’s a man thing on it. A NAKED man thing. Good job. I just think G-DRAGON likes to go hunting and wear whatever he kills. He’s also got a strange choice for eye apparel. And SEUNGRI… well, he actually looks pretty okay.

I’m pretty sure the reason you all are here is because of your interest in Asian media. And just like anyone FAM has it’s likes and dislikes. So we hope that our future videos and post won’t be taken too personally. So no matter what background or where you come from we are all here together loving the same stuff. Actually, this disclaimer is kind of old. It just took me a while to actually post it up XD.

Just like many teenage girls, I like to put posters of some of my idols on my wall. My dresser in particular has a few pictures of Gackt in some SMEXy poses. However, I constantly get asked the question “Jess, why do you have pictures of this girl by your mirror?” by any one who visits my room. Whether they know my love for Asian Media or not, I calmly correct them and say ” No… that’s a man” and a bit of my dignity dies inside. Most of my family and friends will argue that Gackt is indeed a women or just really gay, others just give me a funny look. This routine is nothing new to me now but, before when I first started to show an interest in music artist and drama stars besides the ones directly related to anime, it was indeed a bit confusing for me as well.

At NYAF 2008, I had the pleasure of meeting many artists in the artist alley. I myself am an artist so it was definitely exciting to see all the different works of art on sale and on display. I must say, I was very impressed. If I wasn’t so strapped for cash, I would’ve bought some prints (if the T.M.Revolution booth wasn’t there)! Some of these artists appear at more anime conventions than NYAF, of course. At AnimeNext 2008, I remember seeing quite a few of these artists in the artist alley. It’s amazing to see the talent in action as many artists tend to take commissions right on the spot and draw right in front of you. There were people who made pins, prints, hats, plushies and more. The amount of different mediums used (such as digital, colored pencils, markers) was amazing. Each artist put their own twist onto their favorite anime/manga characters and sold away!

Although each of these artists may be different, all of them gather at anime conventions yearly to draw for a common interest. I personally had the pleasure to briefly interview a few of the artists. As I interviewed these artists, I realized I can relate in so many ways! Even though the artists were asked such similar questions, their own personality shows. In a way, it clears who the person is “behind the mask” so to speak.

The world of Asian Media is small and you can find fans everywhere, even where you least expect it. 4 months ago I would have never thought that I would be dancing along side Ichigo Pantsu, a group of girls ready to boogy to just about anything. Lara and I had met this group at AnimeNext this year, competing against them in the masqurade. Both our routines involved dancing but, in the end IchiP! kinda kicked our butts with neater costumes and sharper moves. However this time around at NY Anime Festival, we met again as better friends with a common interest in dance. On the last day of the con, IchiP! had a dance workshop where they taught a very popular para para called “Night of Fire” by Hinoi Team. It was so much fun to learn from these energetic teachers. We later had an interview with the three girls Erica (IchiRi), Chava Michele (IchiRu), and Venus (IchiRe). Unfortunately, the 4th member Laura (IchiRa) couldn’t attened because we all know she’s having the greatest time ever studying abroad in Japan. The girls were extremely nice and were willing to dance with us in the end!

Click here to see that dance!

About F.A.M. - Fangirling Asian Media

F.A.M. Giving you liberal and honest reviews while squealing the way fangirls do.

About Me

Lara Visconti is an aspiring graphic artist with an undying love for Asian media. Being half-Italian and half-Chinese, she became in touch with her Asian side a couple of years ago. Ever since discovering the wonders of anime as a child, she has expanded her knowledge of the Asian culture. In her spare time, she listens to music, dances, sings, watches Asian dramas, reads, and hunts for the latest news in Pan Asian media. Over the years, Lara has shared her love of the Asian culture and has slowly introduced her friends to new music, celebrities, and anime. She has also been teased since some of her favorite Asian celebrities look very feminine. But, that never stopped her from fangirling. She would continuously draw her favorite celebrities and show her friends her drawings. Now, reaching out to the other fangirls over the internet, Lara would like to share her opinions and views of the latest topics.

Jessica Dawson is a 19 year old African American girl living in the suburbs of New York. She loves to draw puppies, watch Disney animations, and listen to music. Her interest in Asian pop culture first came about 3 years when she was watching anime. While watching the closing credits, Jessica was intrigued by the music playing along with it. She found it facinating that there was a whole new world of R&B, hip hop, rock and pop that seemed right for her to explore. Jessica's friends would make fun of her because of the language barrier and the fact that she is not Asian but, she still wants to share her thoughts and feelings about the topic.
