Big Bang- Remember

Big Bang’s second album titled “Remember” is here! To jump start on things, Big Bang has released their video for the song “Red Sunset” a cover of a song by Lee Moon Sae. As a start, I guess I’ll have to review that first since I saw it first before the album.

Well, I must say, it’s a cute video. I thought Daesung was cute running around like a doofus. Of course, TOP is hot as always. It’s an interesting cover of the song. It’s definitely in the pop category. It’s very obvious that Big Bang’s style likes to constantly change. It was odd listening to “Number 1″ earlier today and then to jump to this. I was also distracted by their sign that read “Let’s go west!” Apparently, it’s an attempt at awareness for the major oil spill that happened in S. Korea a while ago. Well, I like the enthusiasm but it’s kinda late for that. It’s a very upbeat song and I must admit it’s catchy. But of course, Big Bang finally got better when they covered someone else’s song.

Now to start with the tracks… There’s a total of 11 tracks. The opening is very good. I was interested. It’s one of those openings where it makes you feel like dancing!

The second track, 오, 아, 오… well, it has Scatman John in it! Interesting choice for a song. I didn’t think he really matches with Big Bang. When I heard Scatman John, it kind of threw me off. I don’t think it was necessary to put him in. This song would’ve been fine without him.

Since I’ve already got my two cents in for “Red Sunset” (붉은 노을), it’s time to move onto 반짝반짝! It’s a pretty okay song. Nothing worth getting worked up on. I was more distracted by the random “OOOOEEEE!” and “HEY!” that would kind of be thrown in there from time to time.

Now this song is titled “Strong Baby.” Once again, I was more distracted by the shout of “VICTORY!” at the beginning. But it’s appropriate since it is a 승리 (Victory) solo. I guess it’s interesting to have Seungri do a solo. It gets catchy when you listen to it a couple of times!

“Wonderful” seems to be more upbeat compared to some of the other songs. Obviously it’s not as upbeat as 붉은 노을 but it’s still a pretty fun song.

Out of the newer songs, I’d have to say I love 멍청한 사랑 (Foolish Love) the best. It’s one of those softer songs, not as crazy as the others. It’s a pretty smooth song. My only problem is that I would’ve liked to hear TOP sing on this one. He’s a talented singer and he needs a good song to sing on. I would’ve chosen this for him if I had the chance. As always, he raps here.

ONTO THE REMIXES! We’ve got an acoustic version to 하루하루 (Haru Haru) which is simply amazing. I’m a sucker for pianos and acoustic guitars. Big Bang just threw in the two things that would get me in a song. This is an automatic favorite. They made an amazing song even better. We even have a 거짓말 (Lies) remix! Now this remix is also more mellow than the original. It may not have an acoustic guitar but it certainly has a piano. Now that’s pretty sexy. It’s not as intense but I can still groove to it. Now onto my favorite Big Bang song made into a remix, 마지막 인사 (Last Farewell). I LOVE this song. The remix is certainly interesting but it’s probably my least favorite remix here, which sucks considering it’s my favorite song. But hey, Big Bang made up for the other excellent remixes.

The last song on the album is the title track, “Remember.” This is a fun and more R&B feel. It’s pretty catchy and I could definitely imagine myself singing to this. At least Big Bang used a pretty good song for their title track. As for putting it last on the track list, I don’t know. Maybe they were trying to take that “save the best for last” approach but I wouldn’t have put it at the bottom of the list.

Big Bang, you’ve done pretty well for your second album. I would’ve honestly waited a bit longer and wrote a few more songs considering a total of 3 out of 11 tracks are remixes. But, at least they were worth it. Props to G-Dragon and rest of the band for writing some of the songs. It’s nice to know that they’re letting their imagination flow. I hope the boys get some rest soon though. I hear that TOP was sent to the hospital recently due to fatigue and stress! That’s a lot of promoting considering they released this album and “Number 1″ in Japan. I wish you the best of luck boys!
